Support Services

Tackling the Issue

Most of our efforts pertaining to this program involve studying new approaches and developing innovative ways to implement them. We evaluate our success in this field by gathering qualitative and quantitative data, and using that information to measure shifts and changes from our baseline measurements.

Education & Outreach

Making a Difference

We see every challenge as an opportunity, and this initiative helps us ensure that our partners are better prepared to manage the unique situations they find themselves in. We are invested in an innovative approach that empowers our community and delivers the support they need, when they need it.

Community Development

Doing What’s Needed

Through our Community Development, we have the potential to make a real and positive change in the community. This is one of our key areas of focus here at Moorish Science Temple of America, and a source of much success for our Muslim Organization. Organizational Structure:

We organized as the Moorish Temple of Science in the year 1925, and were legally incorporated as a "Civic Organization" under the laws of the State of Illinois, November 29, 1926, via the General Not-for-Profit Corporation Act of 1872. The name Moorish Temple of Science was changed to the Moorish Science Temple of America, May 2, 1928 in accordance with the legal requirements of the Secretary of State of Illinois.

However, since the work of the Moorish Science Temple of America was largely religious, the organization legally "adopted" the name Moorish Science Temple of America on July 20, 1928, in order to duly establish it as a "Religious Body Politic and Corporate" in accordance with the Illinois Religious Corporation Act of 1872, by way of Hurd's Revised Statute Chapter 32 subsection 36; and an "Religious Affidavit of Organization" to this effect has been properly filed in the Cook County Recorder's of Deeds Office of Illinois. Thus said affidavit is (have since July 20, 1928) the document which duly established our organization's "Religious Theocratic Government" (i.e. "public charity") Filed For Record under Document# 10105905, in Book 521, on Page 579.

It must be noted for the record, that our organization's not-for-profit "civic"/social welfare arm, and our organization's nonprofit "religious"/public charity arm are both incorporated in the name of the Moorish Science Temple of America, however, they are both under two different and distinct Acts and Laws established by the Illinois General Assembly; thus donating to the religious/public charity arm of the Moorish Science Temple of America entitles the donor to a tax-deductible benefit, while the civic/social welfare arm of the Moorish Science Temple of America does not.

The Moorish Science Temple of America's Moorish Development, Restoration, and Rehabilitation Program aims are to consistently inspire and attract more active and industrious residents and thriving businesses back into the "New City Neighborhood" in particular, while helping to increase the property value of the existing properties, improving and promoting safety, promoting neighborhood and community pride, encouraging neighborhood and community empowerment, and overall improving the quality of life for all who live, work, and play within the "New City Neighborhood" and the community as a whole.

Through our organization's Moorish Development, Restoration, and Rehabilitation Program (hereinafter the MDRRP), we plan to improve the quality of life for the residents of the "New City Neighborhood", by lawfully and legally acquiring buildings/properties (within its geographical boundaries) which are still structurally sound, and are either marked with a Red Letter X, left vacant or abandoned, deemed unsafe, eye sores, public nuisances, fire hazards, or scheduled to be demolished, etc., in order to transform them into, but not limited to, residential apartments, single family homes, low-income housing, mixed-income housing, senior citizen and/or veteran housing, housing for college/university students, homeless shelters for men, women, and teenagers, halfway housing for formerly incarcerated individuals, shelters for domestic violence victims (both women and men), housing for essential workers (like doctors, nurses, law enforcement officers, firefighters, truck drivers, postal workers, etc.), housing and/or practice facilities for our neighborhood's ametuer sporting teams, etc.

We also plan to beautify the entire neighborhood by lawfully and legally acquiring some of the various vacant lots within the boundaries of the "New City Neighborhood" itself, in order to convert them into, but not limited to, urban farms and/or community gardens (i.e. outdoor community gardens, and year round state-of-the-art greenhouses, etc.), fully gated and patio-styled designed flower and plant garden sitting areas, complete child safe playground areas, etc.

Therefore, whether it be the purpose of an established business to invest in, donate to, or provide resources for "blighted areas" such as the "New City Neighborhood"; it is an individual donors desire to want to help restore a once thriving and historic neighborhood like the "New City Neighborhood"; a possible donor has just become interested and motivated enough to participate in, donate to, and cooperate with us in carrying out our particular organization's great program for uplifting fallen humanity (i.e. helping the less fortunate, abandoned, downtrodden, needy, etc.); or it is just the fact that any donor who donates to the Moorish Science Temple of America (which is indeed a bona fide "Public Charity") can immediately receive a lawfully and legally acknowledged tax deductible from the IRS; it must be duly noted that it is ultimately the residents, families, children, businesses, homeowners, tenants, etc., of/within the "New City Neighborhood" itself who will be directly affected by, and undoubtedly benefit from the Moorish Science Temple of America's Moorish Development, Restoration, and Rehabilitation Program, and all the generous donations of property(ies), resources, monies, etc., donated to the support this particular program.

Why Donate Real Estate / Land /Property

In addition to the Moorish Science Temple of America's aims to restore the "New City Neighborhood", and our plans to accomplish them through the implementation of our organization's Moorish Development, Restoration, and Rehabilitation Program as expressed above, individuals, businesses, financial/banking institutions, governments, organizations, etc., with land and/or property that is just sitting, lacking a positive cash flow, or they are simply in possession of assets that may never reach any usable potential in these current times and turbulent real estate market , is a great reason to strongly consider donating. Other reasons includes, but is not limited to, higher cost for maintenance, higher taxes, rapid depreciation of the property(ies) which no longer serves the financial interest of the donor, the uninsured and/or unforeseen catastrophes that are more of a detriment financially to continue to maintain

For those truly concerned citizens that really want to help improve the communities in which they live, creating affordable housing in downtrodden areas should be the greatest of your consideration. Even businesses (or Business Owners) with property(ies) that are idle, lacking a positive cash flow, or in possession of assets that will never reach any usable potential can be revitalized with new community born start-up companies. A few other reasons in which to strongly consider a charitable donation of property includes, but is not limited to, fully depreciated property(ies) that do not serve the financial interest of the donor, the uninsured and/or unforeseen catastrophes that are more a detriment financially to continue to maintain, etc.

Real Estate Donation: Most Americans do not have a large real estate portfolio. However, those that do have found out they can not only enjoy significant financial benefits, but also provide a charitable benefit to the community at the same time. A Real Estate Donation  given to a bona fide charity can not only help you (i.e. the donor) rid yourself of non-producing property(ies), but also avoid capital gains tax on highly appreciated property(ies). In addition, a Real Estate Donation can significantly reduce your legal and tax liabilities on the property(ies) that you donate, and more efficiently attain personal financial goals; while also supporting both community development and our particular Temple's many charitable endeavors; and promoting the use of Real Estate with a cause.

Why Do People Decide To Donate?

Real Estate Tax Deduction: One of the advantages to the donor for their Real Estate Donation is that the size of the tax deduction is determined by the current market value of the property, as opposed to the cost of the property when it was originally purchased. This means that if you purchased your property in 1988 for $112,000 and today it is worth $412,000, the current value (i.e. the $412,000) is what you would base your tax deduction on. Oh what a privilege/benefit for any generous donor!!! Also, by donating a property instead of selling it outright, "real property donors" can avoid paying Brokers' fees.
